Arizona Cardinals News and Notes: Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald and the NFC Playoffs
Following the Cardinals impressive 30-17 victory over the Minnesota Vikings Sunday evening, there are plenty of interesting storylines brewing.
* The Cardinals will play next Monday night on national television against the San Francisco 49ers. It's first time in team history the Cardinals will play consecutive nationally-televised games.
* Quarterback Kurt Warner appeared to show no ill-effects of the blow to the head he suffered three weeks ago against the Rams. However, Warner was nursing a sore hip suffered in the Vikings game. "It feels good today," Warner told AZCentral.com Monday at the team's Tempe training facility. "It was sore last night, but we got some medicine in it and I woke up today and it was a lot better. It's still a little sore, but a lot better than I expected it to be this morning so I think it will be fine."
* Already with a three-game lead in the NFC West, the Cardinals can clinch their second straight division title with a win over San Francisco Monday night. The Cardinals lost to the 49ers in the season-opener 20-16. Currently seeded third in the NFC at 8-4, the team has a chance to move up should the Vikings stumble. Sunday's victory gave the Cardinals a tie-breaker advantage should the teams finish the season with identical records.
* Cardinal fans may have been surprised to see defensive back Antrel Rolle line up in the backfield in the second quarter Sunday night. Arizona unveiled its own version of the "Wildcat" formation as Rolle scrambled and gained nine yards on the play. "I'm glad we got to run it, though, and yes, absolutely, I hope they let me do it more often," Rolle said with a grin.
* The Cardinals have dominated their opponents in the NFC West over the past three seasons going 12-4 in the division. After sweeping all three division rivals last year, the Cardinals dropped the opener this season to San Francisco.
* Cardinals Pro Bowl receiver Larry Fitzgerald has 10 touchdown catches this season. He's tied with Vernon Davis of the 49ers. With his 34-yard scoring grab versus the Vikings, the superstar wideout became the first Cardinal to have three consecutive seasons with 10 touchdown catches.
