Terry Bowden On The Heisman
The former Auburn coach has a good analysis of the Heisman race today. Almost looks like he’s been reading this site.
Barring any unforeseen injury – knock on wood – Ohio State’s sensational running back, Chris Wells, will win the award this year. He is the best running back in the country, he will put up phenomenal numbers on the season, and the Buckeyes will make it back to the national championship game. (I guess the cat is out of the bag on that question, too)
Interesting that he thinks Matt Stafford will be the first quarterback taken in the NFL draft. I wonder. I haven’t really thought about it. My first instinct is that there has to be a better prospect than Stafford out there. Don’t get me wrong, Stafford is pretty good physically, but he has yet to put it together on the field.
Personally, I’d take Tim Tebow before anyone, but I’m sure the NFL will probably insist that he learn how to take a 7 step drop so he can throw a 6 yard pass to a receiver 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage who will then have to break 4 tackles to make a 3 yard gain. It’s the highest form of football and if he doesn’t learn it, he’ll be the failure, not the stupid coach who decided to make him do it.
